We’re all originally Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, but if the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas were to come now, we could not recognize them, because we haven’t regained our worthiness of seeing them. It’s been a long time since we came down from Heaven and began to live on Earth, and we’ve been badly contaminated by the world of Samsara. Thus, we’ve forgotten our original Nature. We can’t see the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas because we’ve become spiritual beggars and ordinary worldly people and have forgotten who we really are.

If we want to see the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, we need a messenger Bodhisattva who comes to remind us, approaching us as a friend. He’ll prove to us that we’re Bodhisattvas, but we must also purify ourselves so as to be worthy of seeing the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. He’ll help us believe that we’re Bodhisattvas, teach us the manners of a Bodhisattva, and gradually take us back to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, so that we may live with the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, or God.
