Buddha's disciple Nitti was from the lowest social class in India, working as a humble manure carrier. But he could follow the Buddha and became a monk and attained Sainthood. Through this story, Supreme Master Ching Hai advised us that even if we have power, social status, property and knowledge, we should not become arrogant and look down upon others, and we should not think that this job is not good or the other is good.
Humility is from within. A real humble person does not know at all of his/her humility. Humility or arrogance has nothing to do with scolding people or not. If we do not rely on our power to oppress or look down upon others, then we have humility. It’s not that if we don’t speak a word all day then we’re humble. Therefore, we need to know our own quality and check ourselves and do not let the bad habits come up.
