  • Summary

As the Bible says, "Seek you first the Kingdom of God, and all things shall be added unto you." Supreme Master Ching Hai emphasizes that we should teach children from a young age about moral standards and the importance of searching for the Kingdom of God because if we think of God, God will help us and Heaven will bless our children. If the children are also taught to be vegan, to maintain high moral standards, and to have compassion, they will become cleaner, purer, and calmer. And when they grow up, they will be better citizens and more intelligent people. They will be more helpful to society and more protective of the environment.

We as humans should be humane and avoid harming animals. Most animals are innocent; they eat only grass, leaves, and nuts and do not harm other beings. Also, all of God’s creations, even mushrooms, have consciousness. For example, scientists have discovered that mushrooms can adjust the temperature of their surroundings by releasing water. Thus, we need to teach children to be compassionate toward all forms of life and treat them with love.

In a wide range of stories Supreme Master reminds Association members that by being open-hearted and compassionate and meditating more we can benefit our planet and the universe.

Highlights
  1. Human life is very precious, and it is a pity that many people spend their whole lives just earning money to make ends meet. In this regard, Master says, "Seek you first the kingdom of God, and all things shall be added unto you." Pursuing and developing spiritual practice should be the primary goal of our existence. So we need to cultivate love and spirituality and learn about the inner Kingdom and compassion from a young age. If children are taught the importance of searching for the Kingdom of God and their great Selves and of knowing Heaven, they will grow up to pursue these goals.
  2. Why should we be vegan? We need to educate children about not eating animals out of love. Animals are living beings that have understanding and feelings. Thus, when people kill and eat animals the animals suffer greatly.
  3. All creatures are sentient beings with intelligence and unique qualities. Master shares her experiences with insects while living in the mountains. She describes how she trained bees to drink water safely during the dry season, how a seemingly insignificant insect cleaned itself like a cat, and how flies understood her kindness and allowed her to save them.
  4. According to Buddhism, whether we are beautiful or ugly, rich or poor is the result of karma sown in previous lifetimes. Apart from this past-life karma, we also have to bear the karma we sow in this lifetime. Master reminds us to be aware of karma, content with our fortune and level of success, and ever thankful to Heaven.
  5. The Buddha had to sacrifice countless lifetimes and suffer untold hardships and physical pain in order to acquire just a few grains of the Truth. Thus, as practitioners we should appreciate our good fortune in being able to learn such a good way of practice, the Quan Yin Method, and to reach enlightenment without having to endure such hardship and suffering.
  6. How do we define “richness”? Master thinks that richness is a feeling of inner contentment and happiness. "To be rich is not about having money. I'm rich moneywise, but I share my money with others. To be rich is for the purpose of sharing money with others or helping others."
  7. Does Master have fears? How should we confront our fears?
  8. People with money or power are proud to have many people wait on them. However, Master thinks that the more we use people, the more we have to share their karma. Even if we pay them money, because we are too close to them our energies get tangled together, and we can't escape. So we’re not better off having more people work for us. Master reminds us that if people work for us, we should treat them with respect and love and take care of them as family members.
  9. Master discusses her simple life in the mountains, her sacrifices while meeting with people, her love for her dogs, her experiences conducting video conferences under very primitive conditions, and her small loving token for her cleaning staff and for the people who serve us.
