- Summary
Master tells two Buddhist stories, “Viper and Gold” and “Seven Pots of Gold”. The story tells about the previous lives of Shariputra who had been a snake for many lives, reincarnating in the same place for thousands and millions of years, in order to protect his gold. In the end, he was tired of and fed up with it, and realized that his greed for the gold had degenerated him to such degree. He thereafter offered the gold to spiritual practitioners for blessings and merits. Therefore he finally broke away from his snake body and ascended to heaven, being liberated from reincarnation and the cycle of cause and effect.
Sometimes, we think we don’t have enough and our life is not comfortable, but we still can survive and keep our tranquility after all. Having too much money sometimes can harm our life or shake our ethical standards. If we lose this body, it doesn’t matter. But if we lose our longing for the truth because of money, it will be very difficult to get it back again. That’s why Sakyamuni Buddha said :”The road of spiritual practice is wider, easier, and simpler for a monk, but narrow and difficult for a layman. ”This is because it’s inevitable for us to have association with other people, so we may contaminate each other or compete for fame and fortune. It is not that properties and secular relations are bad. It all depends on how we use them. It’s not really bad to have a husband or wife, or some property. The problem is that , sometimes we don’t know how to handle them, then it is not good.
When we practice the Quan Yin Method, we should meditate on the Sound for at least one-hour everyday to be able to wash off the worldly influence. Thus, our spirit can be really happy. Of course, if you practice only for a little while, you’ll also feel happy , but you won’t be able to feel completely pure joy.
