  • Summary

After being “offended” by his disciple Lin-Ji, Zen Master Huang-Po burst into laughter instead of getting angry. Do you want to know about the deep meaning in this? In this lecture, Supreme Master Ching Hai will reveal the Zen meaning behind the laughter of Zen Master Huang-Po. The Supreme Master points out, if a highest level Zen master doesn't smell any air of Zen and is able to let his disciple beat, scold or talk back to himself, it means that Zen master is very ordinary and has attained the lowest level. He is the highest, so is he the lowest, meaning he has attained the power of perfection.

Living in this ignorant mundane world which is full of “poisons”, if we do not know the perfect power inside or if we do not use the sound to clean our soul, we would be bounded by our karma life after life and easily fall into the trap of magic power. The ego is the biggest obstacle and ignorance. The bigger it grows, the lonelier we will feel inside. Since all is created by the mind, our practice will go in a wrong way if our conceptions are wrong. So we spiritual practitioners should be more careful about our own ego.
